NBA休士頓火箭正在大陸上海備戰「NBA中國賽」，火箭後衛哈登（James Harden）被視為本季MVP最有競爭力的球星之一，其他MVP級球星還包括詹姆斯（LeBron James）、杜蘭特（Kevin Durant）和柯瑞（Stephen Curry）。哈登對自己爭奪MVP深具信心，哈登說，「我非常努力，而且充滿自信。」
哈登在火箭新賽季被設定在不同角色，火箭總教練丹東尼（Mike DAntoni）希望哈登更多扮演控球後衛角色，利用自己的一得分能力和侵略性，為火箭創造更多空間和機會。
季前熱身賽兩場比賽，哈登平均每場傳出10.5次助攻，哈登還打出一場28分、11助攻、6籃板的超人數據，不少媒體、專家都期待哈登在新賽季的角色和爆發。
哈登表示，「我對競爭MVP非常有信心，因為我很努力訓練，我想帶領球隊打出更好的狀況和戰績，只要我們打出更出色戰績，所有榮耀自然可以到來。火箭目前的狀況、心態、教練、球隊氛圍都讓我感到非常開心。」
除了狂猛的進攻得分，每場42次的三分球出手，火箭季前熱身賽也在努力改善全隊防守。哈登表示，「我們在防守端不斷取得進步，我們很清楚，只有打出更好的防守，球隊才能解決更多困境，我相信只要一起努力團結，好的結果就會發生。」
